Decathlon Group

Decathlon is a French manufacturer and distributor of sports equipment and clothing. The company has 604 retail stores in 19 countries, 251 of them in France.

History

Michel Leclercq opened in Englos at Lille on July 27, 1976 his first sporting goods business and thus founded the company Decathlon. 1986 Decathlon began with the production of sports goods under its own name. In the same year in Dortmund opened the first store outside of France. In 1988, the first production facility was opened in Asia. Opened in 1999, Decathlon, the first stores in the United States and in England. From the U.S. Decathlon however withdrew due to the difficult market environment after several years. The first store in Asia opened on 5 November 2003 in Shanghai. Since 2008, the eldest son of the founder Michel Leclercq, Olivier Leclercq, held the line. Since 2008 Decathlon is a subsidiary of Oxylane SA, which belongs to the Association Familiale Mulliez.

Group structure

The French Decathlon S. A. is represented in Germany, including through the Decathlon sports GmbH & Co. KG in Plochingen. The Decathlon S. A. occurs under the name " Oxylane " on.

Since November 28, 2013, there are 21 stores in Germany. On the site of the former railway repair work Schwetzingen Decathlon has a logistics center.

Own brands

As Passion Brands Decathlon denotes the own sports brands. In total there are 21 Passion Brands. These are divided into 17 product brands for sports such as Quechua for mountain sports and Kalenji for running and 4 components brands such as Novadry for breathable clothing and Equarea for fast drying materials.
