The Deerfield River is a right tributary of the Connecticut River in the U.S. states of Vermont and Massachusetts.

The Deerfield River rises in the Green Mountains of southern Vermont northwest of Somerset Reservoir. From there it flows in a southerly direction. He takes on the Glastenbury River from the right and the East Branch of the left. Then it flows through the reservoirs Searsburg Reservoir and Harriman Reservoir. The North Branch also flows into the Harriman Reservoir. In Readsboro of West Branch meets on the right side of the river. Then Deerfield River flowing through the reservoir Sherman, in which the South Branch flows and reaches Massachusetts. After the location is situated Monroe and shortly afterwards the lower reservoir of the pumped storage power plant on Jack Cockwell river. Well turns the river to the east. Charlemont and Shelburne Falls are located on the lower reaches of the Deerfield River. The Mohawk Trail (Massachusetts Route 2 ) leads on this route along the river. The Deerfield River takes just before its confluence with the Green River on the left side and take on the southern edge of Greenfield on the Connecticut River. Deerfield River has a length of 122 km.

Hydropower plants

At the Deerfield River are several hydroelectric plants. Since the early 20th century, electricity is generated by the river. The pumped storage power plant Jack Cockwell was previously known as Bear Swamp.
