The Degognia Township is one of 16 townships in Jackson County in the southwest of the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010, the Degognia Township had 153 inhabitants.
Geography
The Degognia Township is located east bank of the Mississippi River, which forms the border with Missouri. The mouth of the Ohio at the intersection of the states of Illinois, Missouri and Kentucky is located around 130 km south.
The Degognia Township is located at 37 ° 48'51 " north latitude and 89 ° 38'15 " west longitude and extending over 79.43 km ², spread over 76.68 km ² land and 2.75 km ² water surface.
The Degognia Township is located in the extreme west of Jackson County and is bordered to the south and southwest separated by the Mississippi River to the Perry County in Missouri. In the northwest, the Randolph County borders. Within the Jackson County borders the Degognia Township on the north by Bradley Township, on the east by the Kinkaid Township, and to the southeast by the Fountain Bluff Township.
Traffic
Through the Township runs along the Mississippi here the Illinois section of the Great River Road forming Illinois State Route 3 All other roads are County Roads or more subordinate and partly unpaved roadways.
Parallel to the Illinois State Route 3 runs a railway line of the Union Pacific Railroad.
With the Southern Illinois Airport is located approximately 40 km east of the township Degognia a regional airport. The nearest major airport is the Lambert -Saint Louis International Airport ( some 150 km north-west ).
Demographic data
According to the census in 2010 lived in the Degognia Township 153 people in 61 households. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. In the 61 households lived statistically 2.51 per person.
Ethnically, the population was sat with three exceptions only from whites.
