Deister Railway

The Deister Deister train or route is a rail line in Lower Saxony between Weetzen and Haste. Today, it is a section of the network of S -Bahn Hannover.

History

The railway line was built by the Hanover Altenbekener Railway Company, mainly to bulk (coal, stones) to transport from the Deister on the rail. The section Weetzen - Barsinghausen was taken on May 1, 1872 the remaining part to Haste on August 15, 1872 in operation. At this time did not exist breakpoints in Lemmie, Kirchdorf, Winning Hausen and Bantorf. The route to Barsinghausen was first day with two pairs of trains, according to the extension to Haste serves the entire route with three pairs of trains. The line was immediately used for the delivery of mail to Barsinghausen and Wennigsen. In 1975, the station Bantorf was established. On 1 October 1901, the breakpoint Winnighausen was opened. In 1904, farmers started from Bönnigsen an initiative to set a breakpoint at Lemmie. For them, the road to Wennigsen station was indeed significantly shorter, due to a steep slope with horse-drawn carts but tedious. The breakpoint was opened on 15 December 1904. The breakpoint Kirchdorf was established in 1955.

On March 22, 1969 drove for the last time a steam locomotive with a regular passenger train on the track and the train has been converted to diesel traction. After setting the DB plans in the late 1960s, the line was financially supported by the Association of Greater Hanover, a predecessor of the Hanover region, electrified and operated electrically effective May 31, 1970. First pull trains were used with n- trolleys, from 1989 City rail cars, which were mainly locomotives of type 141 pulled or pushed. The locomotive moved normally toward Haste. In preparation for the Expo 2000 in Hanover, the route of Weetzen to Egestorf ( Deister) was expanded to double track and the stations or stops restored and / or rebuilt. Only a short section directly on Weetzen station is still single track, since a doubling of the track here would have caused a significant increase in costs with only a slight benefit. By the doubling of existed in the section between Weetzen and Egestorf only in the stations and Wennigsen Egestorf double track passing places.

The railway stations in Weetzen, Wennigsen, Egestorf and Barsinghausen possessed earlier on other sidings, were handled over the goods. The clearing of cargo in Wennigsen was abandoned in the 1980s, the sidings were in the course of renovation work, mostly for the Expo 2000 will be removed. Also up in the 1980s, mechanical signal boxes were in the train stations and Wennigsen Egestorf before the foundations of the respective adjacent signal boxes in Barsinghausen or Weetzen have been managed.
