Democratic Labor Party (South Korea)

The Democratic Workers' Party of Korea (Korean 민주 노동당, abbreviation DAPK ) is the name of a political party in South Korea, which was from 1999 until 2011. She represented a Democratic Socialism.

The DAPK was founded in 1999 and reached for the first time in 2004 in elections to the Parliament in South Korea 13.03 % and 10 seats. Party chairman was Moon Sung- hyun. In the party there was a rivalry between two directions. The " equality " wing, which was represented by the group " People's Democracy ", campaigned for it to focus on the issues of social welfare and civil rights. The group " National Liberation ", which represented the " independence" wing was more focused on Korean nationalism and the approach to North Korea and entered emphasized on anti-American. The conflict culminated during the presidential election campaign in 2007, after which the members of the " people's democracy " leaked and the New Progressive Party founded.

On 5 December 2011, the Democratic Labor Party merged with the People's Participation Party and a willingness to compromise part of the New Progressive Party and went on in the United Progressive Party.
