Democratic Union for Integration

The Democratic Union for Integration ( DUI shortly; Albanian Bashkimi Demokratik për Integrim, short BDI; macedonian Demokratska Unija za Integracija Демократска Унија за Интеграција, short ДУИ DUI ) is the largest political party of the Albanian minority in Macedonia and the third largest in the country. It was established on 5 June 2002, immediately after the end of the conflict in the country. Chairman since the founding of the Party, the former commander of the KLA, Ali Ahmeti.

Ideology

The DUI sees itself as the guardian of the rights of the Albanians in Macedonia. It is the direct successor organization of the militant KLA ( National Liberation Army ), which was disbanded in 2002. Together with the Albanian Democratic Party, it is one of the strongest Albanian parties in Macedonia.

History

In the parliamentary elections of 2002 she obtained 11.9 percent of the vote (70 percent of Albanians ) and 16 of 120 seats in parliament. The DUI entered into a coalition with the Social Democrats and the Liberal Democrats.

2006 became the coalition between the DUI, the Albanian Party for Democratic Prosperity (PDP ) and the Democratic Bosniak League ( DBL) 12.2 percent of the total votes and 18 seats of 120

2008 new parliamentary elections were initiated because the Albanian Democratic Party ( ADP) exited the alliance with the VMRO -DPMNE, as they did not recognize the independence of Kosovo. In these elections, the DUI gained 12.8 percent of the vote and 18 seats in parliament again. They entered into a coalition with the VMRO -DPMNE and became part of the government. The election campaign was overshadowed by a variety of attacks. The DUI suffered the most attacks. Thus, a stop was at the party chairman Ali Ahmeti and committed numerous DUI party offices were attacked. Ahmeti accused for the rival ADP and " structures of the Interior Ministry ." The small Albanian party PDP merged after the elections with the ADP.

Even after the parliamentary elections of 2011, the DUI was in the government. The VMRO- DPMNE had lost its absolute majority and was so dependent even more on a coalition partner. The DUI could reach 15 seats and is in the government seven ministers.
