History

Archaeological excavations have shown that in the Middle Bronze Age (ca. 1800-1200 BC), at this point there was already a settlement, the so-called Eikendonk. The struggle of the people against the water continued until the present, it always came back to flooding. Much progress has been achieved with the construction of a dike in 1649.

The predominantly Catholic population of the Dungens came in 1629 under the Protestant reign of Frederick Henry of Orange. The Catholic Church has been passed into the hands of the Dutch Reformed Church. Since the rule of Napoleon in 1807, the Catholics could practice their faith.
