Detern

Detern is a small East Frisian municipality in north-west Germany. It belongs to Samtgemeinde Jümme in the district of Leer in Lower Saxony ( Germany ).

Geography

Geographical Location

The village is located about 50 kilometers from the border with the Netherlands and 50 kilometers from the North Sea coast. The Jümme flows through the community.

History

Incorporations

On 1 January 1973, communities Amdorf, Barge, Neuburg, Stickhausen and Velde were incorporated. The church lost the extra spots.

Origin of the name

An old name is Deterns 1752 Dedarden / Detarden. The root word of the name is probably on " ard " for " settlement, habitation " back. The first part of the name has " thiotan " for " noise, sound " its origin, there is probably a water body name basis. It has the meaning " the Noisy, Noisy ". So probably " rushing water " because the Aper Tief is near. Accordingly, the local name stands for "settlement by the rushing water."

Parish council

The Council of the Municipality Council Detern consists of 13 women and councilors. This is the set number for the member community of integrated municipality with a population of 2001-3000 people. The 13 council members are elected through local elections for five years. The current term of office began on 1 November 2011.

The council chose the council member Klaus Dieter Bleeker (FDP ) for honorary mayor for the current parliamentary term.

The turnout in the local elections of 2011 was 58.4 %, well above the Lower Saxony average of 52.5 %. For comparison - in the previous local elections on 10 September 2006, the voter turnout was 56.7%.

Attractions

  • Castle Stickhausen ( 1498 by Hamburg merchants built as protection from predators. Receive round tower to this day. )
  • The Classicist St. Stephani and Bartholomew Church.

Nature Reserves

The natural monument Barger sea is since 1941 a nature reserve and comprises 6.3 hectares. The 75 -acre Aper Tief is designated as a nature reserve since 1994.

Sports

Founded in 1922 gymnastics and sports club Detern eV offers the sports of football, tennis, badminton, athletics, gymnastics and gymnastics. The largest division is the football, the first men's team plays in the first, the second team circle class and in the second circle class. The ladies play from the season 2010/2011 after a year of abstinence in the district league.
