Dettingen an der Erms is a town about twelve kilometers north-east of Reutlingen in Baden- Württemberg. Dettingen, with its entire municipal area part of the biosphere area Swabian Alb. The municipality belongs to the marginal zone of the metropolitan region of Stuttgart.

Geographical location

The district is located in the upper Ermstal between the towns of Bad Urach and Metzingen at the foot of the central Swabian Alb, which forms the municipal boundary here, at an altitude of 372 m above sea level. History

The favorable climate area was already inhabited in prehistoric and ancient times. To 85 AD, the area came under direct rule of the Roman Empire ( province Germania superior). The Dettinger Mountian extends across the Ermstal and covers 1582 hectares. Religion

On March 7, 2010 Michael Hillert was re-elected with 60.37 % in the first ballot with a voter turnout of 57.4 % for a second term as mayor.

In Dettingen there are over 500 businesses, including the automotive supplier ElringKlinger which here has its headquarters. The wholesale bakery Richard Herrmann ( Herrmann of Alb) is the third largest bakery in Baden- Württemberg with around 80 branches. November 10, 2010 bankruptcy petition was filed at the Office Court of Tübingen. Traffic

The Federal Highway 28 runs past the community and connects them to the west with Metzingen, Reutlingen and Tübingen and in the east with Ulm.
