Dhiban, Jordan

Dhiban (also Diban; Arab ذيبان, Diban DMG ) is a city in Jordan. It is located in the area of biblical Moab, about five kilometers north of the river Arnon, and approximately 20 kilometers east of the Dead Sea. Dhiban is known as the site where the Mesha stele.

The city is mentioned in the Old Testament, under the name Dibon (4 Mos 21,30 EU) and Dibon - gad (4 Mos 3.45 EU). It should have been built Dibon Gad and his (Isa 15.9 EU). After the Mesha stele Dhiban was in the 9th century BC, probably capital of the kingdom of Moab.
