Diaschisis

Diaschisis ( Greek for quite shocked ') is a sudden loss of function in one part of the brain that is outside of the actually damaged area. The term goes back to the Russian anatomist Constantin von Monakow, who coined it in the early 20th century. From the place of the originally damaged area attract neurons to the site of diaschisis. When damage either excitatory pathways accounts ( original concept Monakow ) or inhibitory pathways, which then the loss of function in the affected area of the diaschisis related.
