Diesten is a town in the Lower Saxon town of Bergen in the northern district of Celle on the Lüneburg Heath. It is located 20 km north of Celle on the highway 240 and currently has 357 residents.

History

Diesten was first mentioned in 1235 under the name Dedestesen. To date, Diesten is dominated by agriculture and has preserved its original townscape. Districts of Diesten are located 1 km north of the village Huxahl and from 2 km to the east Lindhorst. In Lindhorst is an old, standing under nature protection oak. It should have been mentioned already in the 15th century in a document. After that, she has an age of at least 700 years.

On 1 January 1973 Diesten was incorporated into the city of Bergen.

Policy

Since its incorporation as part of the Lower Saxon and administrative reform in 1973 Diesten is a town of Bergen. Diesten is Represented by Ortsrat and the mayor. The Ortsrat has, inter alia, decision-making powers for the located in the village public facilities, is responsible for the appearance of the village and care of club life and needs to be heard by the city of Bergen on all important matters affecting the village. It is composed of five elected representatives, a native of Diesten members of the municipal council and the mayor of the city of Bergen Bergen. The Ortsrat elect the mayor, current incumbent is Henry Penshorn.
