History

According to research by Helmuth Grössing is between the first house Dietrichsteinplatz of the family of high outdoor Projern of Leon Stone, which expired at the beginning of the 14th century to distinguish the second house Dietrichsteinplatz. The latter comes from the family of the Nussberg, with Mathias of Nussberg occurs in 1250 ( in Sankt Veit an der Glan ) in Carinthia and out of Nicholas I of Nussberg, St. Vitus cl 1290 to 1304 with an heiress of Rudolf von Dietrich Stein was married. Of his sons, called Nicholas " by Dietrich stone " and was the progenitor of the younger house Dietrichsteinplatz, while his brother Ortolf still called " of Nussberg and St. Vitus '. From 1517 to 1586 the Dietrichsteiner were, inter alia, Owner of Frey rule Paternion.

The family split later into two major lines: originated in the Weichselstätt - Rabensteinische, which became extinct in 1861 with Count Johann Duclas by Dietrich stone, and the Hollenburg - Finkensteinische from the two branches: the older ( " hollenburgsche " or Austrian ) branch and the younger ( " nikolsburgische " or princely ) branch that was in the kingdom baron, 1600 or 1612 in the imperial Count and finally collected in 1624 in the imperial princes for primogeniture 1514. Members of this line were since 1575 holder of the qualified rule Mikulov ( Mikulov ) in Moravia and later received another title: the third prince of the empire acquired in 1684 the title of princely Counts of Scuol, the sixth prince of the empire acquired in 1769 as heir of his maternal grandfather the title a count of Proskau, the seventh prince of the empire acquired in 1802 as a legacy of the last Count Leslie of Balquhaine also the title of Count Leslie. The nikolsburgische or princely branch of the House Dietrichsteinplatz 1864 is extinguished with the death of the 10 princes of Dietrichsteinplatz in the male line.

Four years later, the Austrian statesman and foreign minister Alexander Graf von Mensdorff -Pouilly (1813-1871), who was married to a daughter of the 9th princes of Dietrichsteinplatz since 1857, by Emperor Franz Joseph under the name Prince of Dietrichsteinplatz to Mikulov in the Austrian princely state (for the primogeniture ) is given, the rest of the offspring should bear the name Mensdorff -Pouilly -Dietrich stone. However, this sequel to the Dietrichsteinplatz has gone through the female line 1964 in the male line. Descendants of the original royal house through the female line can be found, however, in many Austrian and foreign noble families.
