Dig It (song)

Dig It (German: , it Kapiere ') is a song by British band The Beatles on their last album Let It Be was released in 1970. The song comes from an improvisation, which started the band in late January 1969.

Background

Dig It is one of two songs, in which all four Beatles were together named as authors ( Lennon / McCartney / Harrison / Starkey ). It was during the recording sessions for the album Let It Be, the yet to be called Get Back at the time of recording. To a simple chord progression repeated ad infinitum John Lennon improvised a text. In the published version of the song he lined up the terms " ( like a) Rollin 'Stone ", "( like the) FBI ", "( and the) CIA ", "( and the ) BBC ", " BB King "," (and) Doris Day "and" Matt Busby " to each other, followed by" Dig it! ".

Recording

The only 49 -second song is only a snippet from an extensive jam sessions. A first nearly seven-minute version took the Beatles on January 24, 1969 in her own studio in the basement of the Apple offices in London's Savile Row to. Another 12 minutes 25 seconds long version was on 26 January 1969. A short excerpt from this version ( 8:52 to 9:41 ) was published. On 28 and January 29, 1969 more versions that are not found more consideration arose.

In March 1969, the music producer Glyn Johns was asked to put together from the recordings in January 1969 album. He made this a five minute version of Dig It, which remained unpublished. In January 1970 John was again commissioned with the production; this was a version with a length of 4:24. These remained unpublished.

Ultimately, Phil Spector was commissioned to compose the album. On March 27, 1970, this dialogue cutouts along the recording sessions and made a only 49 -second version of Dig It by simply faded out the song on and off again. At the end he cut a spoken by Lennon sentence (" That was Can You Dig It by Georgie Wood, and now we'd like to do Hark The Angels Come" ), which comes from the first recording of Dig It on January 24, 1969.

Publication

On 8 May 1970 Dig It was released on the album Let It Be. A slightly longer version of the song can be seen in the eponymous feature film debut five days later. When the album Let It Be by the name of Let It Be ... Naked was released revised again on 17 November 2003, Dig It was no longer contain it. Instead, a 30 second long section of the first recording of 24 January 1969, the Bonus CD Fly on the Wall to Let It Be ... Naked was to be found.
