Dollar, Clackmannanshire

Dollar ( Scottish Gaelic Dolair of dal - aird " valley between the hills " ) is a town in the Scottish Unitary Authority Clackmannanshire. It is about eight kilometers northeast of Alloa and 16 km north- west of Dunfermline at the foot of the Ochil Hills and belongs to the Hill Foot's Villages. The Firth of Forth flows about ten kilometers, the Devon few hundred meters south. Dollar is connected by the A91 to the road network. In 2001 recorded Dollar 2877 inhabitants.

History

A settlement that was located at the site of today's dollars was destroyed to the location above Dollars Castle Campbell, the seat of the Dukes of Argyll and headquarters of the Clan Campbell, by the Duke of Montrose in 1645 as part of the attack. Today, ruins of Castle Campbell are only preserved in the dollar Glen. Historically, the textile production was an important economic activity in dollars and contributed significantly to its development. Here, the companies took advantage of the numerous mountain streams along the slopes of the Ochils to generate energy. So there tweed, tartan and knitwear have been produced since the 16th century.
