Dollond & Aitchison is one of the oldest English company with a focus on eye care for consumers. The headquarters is located in Aston Cross Business Park, 50 Rocky Lane, Aston, Birmingham.

History

On April 21, 1750 Peter Dollond opened a small optician's shop on Vine Street, near Hatton Garden, London. 1768 John Dollond ( 1706-1761 ) to the optician of King George III. and the Duke of York appointed. 1851 Dollond involved in the Great Exhibition and was awarded for the quality of optical instruments with a medal. Opened in 1889, James Aitchinson ( 1860-1911 ) his first shop in Fleet Street.

1927 merged Aitchison & Co. and Dollond & Aitchison Dollond & Co..

In 1969, the seat was umverlegt to Birmingham. From 1970-1982 there were a number of add acquisitions in the UK, Italy and Spain.

At the product level Dollond & Aitchison led 1996 D & A's Styleyes Computer Eyes and a service, in 1997 the company went online. In 1998, the postal delivery of contact lenses has been introduced.

1999 purchased D & A Italian manufacturer De Rigo frame. 2000, a new shop on the Hagley Road was opened. In 2001 the company was restructured.

Dollond & Aitchison was fused to Boots Opticians in May 2009, but will continue to operate as a trading name of Boots Opticians group.

The new company will have in common with De Rigo and Alliance Boots a total of approximately 690 stores throughout the UK and employed 2009 directly more than 5,000 employees.

D & A is a member of nectar, the largest loyalty program in the UK, since 2005.
