Dolné Vestenice

Dolné Vestenice ( Unterwestenitz German, Hungarian Alsóvesztény - to 1907 Alsóvesztenic ) is a city and a municipality in the Trenčín Region Okres Prievidza in western central Slovakia, with 2595 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011).

Geography

The municipality is located in the basin Hornonitrianska kotlina (Upper Nitra basin ) on the southern slope of the mountain Strážovské hills on the right bank of the river Nitrica. Dolné Vestenice is on the main road 50, between Prievidza, 20 kilometers to the east and Bánovce nad Bebravou, 14 kilometers to the west.

History

The territory has been inhabited since the 11th century, but the first written record comes from the year 1349, where the place is mentioned as Wezthernicz Inferior. The area belonged to the estate of Skačany, since 1777 then to Nitransky chapter. 1892 here a factory for the manufacture of walking sticks, hats and rugs was founded.
