Domašinec

Domašinec is a municipality located in the County of Međimurje.

Geography

The municipality is located in the extreme northeast of the Međimurje County and consequently borders Hungary. It spreads over an area of ​​35.33 km ², which is about 4.80% of the entire county. Thus, it belongs to the series of medium-sized communities.

The population

At the last census from 2011, Domašinec had 2,251 inhabitants, who were divided into two settlements: Domašinec - 1700 - 551 and Turčišće 1,182 women and 1,069 men. Among them were people of different ethnicity, such as the Roma, Albanians, Serbs, Slovenes, Russians, Bosnians, Hungarians and German.

The coat of arms

Like any municipality in the county Međimurje Domašinec also has its own coat of arms and a flag ceremony. The coats of arms are green and in the middle there are two yellow flail. The flail were formerly used for threshing the grain in agriculture. The flag is also green with gelbbordierten coat of arms in the middle. Among them are two wheat bundle and above the emblem of the name of the municipality in two rows.

History

In the historical sources, Domašinec is mentioned for the first time in 1244 and in connection with the Prince Petrina. He owned a property with the name Damasa, or Doma - SA. But there was earlier a feudal possession called Damasa. Mid-14th century, more precisely in 1349, the term Damasa is mentioned in the area between the rivers Mura and Drava. However, the first mention of the name today Domašinec ( Domassi - necz ) are 1478. Domašinec 1672 was the administrative headquarters of one of the thirteen Giudicati in Međimurje County. For giudicato included the following settlements: Dekanovec, Novakovec, Gardinovec, Belica, Pribislavec, Mihovljan and Gornji Pustakovec. End of the 18th century Domašinec was a rather large and for this time also rich settlement. The inhabitants occupied themselves mainly with beekeeping, handicrafts and bred them in large quantities of tobacco. The first official census was in 1785. This time lived in Domašinec 811 inhabitants. In a period of a hundred years, the population grew by 50 %, which was very low. Only 595 people in 1785 were literate.

1992 Domašinec was formed as an autonomous territorial unit and unit of local self-government.
