Domenico Svampa

Domenico Cardinal Svampa ( born June 13, 1851 in Montegranaro, Italy, † 10 August 1907 in Bologna) was Archbishop of Bologna.

Life

Svampa studied theology in Fermo and Rome, and received on 4 April 1874, the ordination. He was Socius of the Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome and from 1879 professor of theology in the Archdiocese of Fermo.

Pope Leo XIII. appointed him on 23 May 1887 Bishop of Forlì. He received his episcopal consecration on 29 June of the same year Cardinal Giovanni Simeoni. Co-consecrators were Domenico Maria and Antonio Maria Jacobini Grasselli. Svampa modernized, among other things teaching in seminaries and promoted charitable initiatives.
