Dominican Professional Baseball League

Called The League Dominicana de Béisbol Invernal ( LIDOM ), officially " Liga de Beisbol Profesional de la Republica Dominicana ", is the highest professional baseball league in the Dominican Republic.

The champion has been increasing since 1970 as a representative of the Dominican Republic in the series del Caribe part.

Game Mode

The regular season, the first of two rounds of league runs, over 50 game days, starting in October through December. The first four placed teams then determine in another League round of 18 games per team in December and January, the best two teams, then the end of January in a best-of -nine play-off series to determine the champion. In the seasons 2008/ 09 and 2009/10 Inter League games in the series were held in December against the teams in the Puerto Rico Baseball League. In the season 2010/ 11, this Inter League games do not take place, however.

History

Baseball made ​​its way in the sixties of the 19th century by the U.S. on Cuba in the Caribbean. 1874 was the first official baseball game held in Cuba. During the time of the Ten Years' War (1868-1878) many Cubans fled the island and immigrated to the Dominican Republic. They brought, among others, with the sport, " Béisbol ".

From 1900 " Béisbol " grew into a popular recreational sport. 1907, the Tigres del Licey were founded, 1911, the Estrellas Orientales and 1921, the Leones del Escogido.
