Don't Pass Me By

Do not Pass Me By (German: , Do not go on by me ') is a song by British rock band The Beatles in 1968 The published on the so-called White Album song was the first of only two compositions, Ringo. Starr, the drummer for the Beatles, composed for the band.

Background

Starr Do not Pass Me By as early as 1963 or 1964 had composed. In a radio interview that gave the Beatles in June 1964 in New Zealand, Starr urged his bandmates to sing the song. On July 14, 1964 Paul McCartney in the BBC radio show Top Gear spontaneously sang the first few lines of the song, after Starr was asked if he plans to write her own songs. The fact that the song consists of only three chords, Starr explain later so that he can only play three chords depending on the guitar and the piano.

Production

Do not Pass Me By was recorded in the summer of 1968 at Abbey Road Studios in London. Producer was George Martin, assisted by Geoff Emerick and Ken Scott. Under the working title Ringo 's Tune ( Untitled ) took McCartney and Starr on June 5, 1968 three takes with drums and piano on. In the overdub process of recording another piano, a tambourine, bass and vocals were added. The following day the song in This Is Some Friendly was renamed, and Starr took his vocal scratch.

On 12 July 1968, the violinist Jack Fallon was booked for more pictures. In a three and a half hour recording session, he recorded one arranged by George Martin and Paul McCartney violin solo. At the end of the recording - actually after the end of the song - impromptu Fallon on the violin in the assumption that this recording will be deleted. In the final mix of Do not Pass Me By this improvisation was left to Fallon's surprise.

The last recordings for Do not Pass Me By took place on 22 July 1968, which focused solely on the introduction of the song. A short orchestral introduction was produced, but later discarded. The recording was released in 1996 under the title A Beginning in the Anthology series. An introduction on a piano were also included, which was (of 45 reduced to eight seconds) ultimately used.

The stereo and Monoabmischungen of the song differ significantly: The mono version was produced with a significantly higher playback speed, and also the violin solo is quite different.

Publication

Do not Pass Me By was released on November 22, 1968 on the album The Beatles. In the UK it was not released as a single. However, a single release in Denmark in 1969 reached number one on the Danish singles chart in April.
