Don Barclay (actor)

Don Barclay ( born December 26, 1892 in Ashland, Oregon, USA; † 16 October 1975, in Palm Springs, California, USA; actually Thu Van Tassel Barclay ) was an American actor. He had his international best-known role in the Disney film musical Mary Poppins (1964).

Life

Don Barclay made ​​his film debut in 1915 in a series of slapstick silent film comedies, especially the " Ambrose " series with Mack Swain. In one of these movies, Ambrose 's Nasty Temper (1915), he also appeared as a Keystone Kop. After that, however, he focused on a career on the stage and worked on Broadway in the Ziegfeld Follies of 1916 and 1917. Also during the 1920s he played mainly on Broadway and was in musical comedies and revues such as Go -Go ( 1923), The Greenwich Village Follies (1924 /25), Merry- Go-Round (1927 ), Nina Rosa (1930 / 31) or Americana (1932 ) can be seen.

1933 Barclay returned to the film business and played a first series of comic characters in short films. It was followed by countless supporting roles in feature-length films, mostly without mention in the opening or closing credits. Barclay gave a whole gallery of drunks, but was also happy as a taxi driver, Reporter, Bartender or - used as a piano player - such as in The Law West of Tombstone ( 1938). Larger roles he had in The Falcon 's Brother ( 1942) and in the horror film Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man ( Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, 1943) on the side of Lon Chaney, Jr.. , Bela Lugosi and Lionel Atwill.
