Donald "Duck" Dunn

Donald " Duck" Dunn ( * November 24, 1941 in Memphis, Tennessee; † 13, 2012 in Tokyo, Japan) was an American bass player, music producer and songwriter. He was also a member of the rhythm-and - blues band, The Blues Brothers and it was a broad audience with his performances in the films Blues Brothers and Blues Brothers 2000 known.

Career

In his biography Dunn says that the nickname " Duck" came from his father and was then just stuck to it. He started his career together with his childhood friend, guitarist Steve Cropper, in the band The Royal Spades. Then he played mostly bass, Ben Branch, later at the Stax studios. He reached many chart positions with the band Booker T. & the MG's and the Mar - Keys in the 1960s and 1970s. After leaving Stax Dunn played as a studio and live bass player for musicians like Muddy Waters, Freddie King, Albert King, Neil Young, Jerry Lee Lewis and Rod Stewart. He also played the bass guitar of Eric Clapton, among others at Live Aid.

Dunn was taken in 1992 with the band Booker T. & the MG's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.

The evening before his death, he had his last appearance with Eddie Floyd and Steve Cropper, with the his life he worked most closely together. Dunn died on 13 May 2012 in Tokyo.

Equipment

Donald Dunn's first electric bass was a 1958 model of the company Kay, he acquired later in the same year his first Precision Bass (P -Bass ) the manufacturer Fender and then played mainly bass P- bass type, including in the film Blues Brothers.
