Doug Frith

Douglas Cockburn Frith, PC ( born March 5, 1945 in Brampton, Ontario, † March 21, 2009 in Ottawa ) was a Canadian politician (Liberal Party) and represented from 1980 to 1988 the Sudbury District in the Canadian House of Commons.

Frith visited the Sudbury High School and studied at the University of Toronto. Before he became active in politics, he was a pharmacist in Sudbury.

He served as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Health from 1980 to 1982, during the last government of Pierre Trudeau. When John Turner Trudeau followed in 1984 as party leader and Prime Minister, he brought Frith as Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development to the Cabinet. The Liberals lost the election in 1984, Frith was one of only 40 Liberal MPs who were re-elected.

Frith worked in the shadow cabinet of the opposition. In 1988, he no longer went to the election in order to accept an appointment as vice president of Hill & Knowlton can. It was 1995 Chairman of the Canadian subsidiary.

From July 1996 to January 2008 he was president of the Canadian Motion Picture Distributors Association, which is associated with the Motion Picture Association of America and represents the interests of the film industry in Canada. In April 2008, he was Vice Chairman of Global Public Affairs.

Frith died on 21 March 2009 after a heart attack in Ottawa. He is survived by seven children and five grandchildren.
