Doug Smail

Douglas Dean Smail ( born September 2, 1957 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who in his playing days from 1975 to 1996 among others for the Winnipeg Jets, Minnesota North Stars, Nordiques de Québec and Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League played.

Career

Doug Smail began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at the Moose Jaw Canucks, for whom he was active from 1975 to 1977 in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. He then spent three years at the University of North Dakota, for their hockey team, he was active in parallel to his studies in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. From 1980 to 1990, the attackers played for the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League. During his time with the Jets, he took part in the NHL All-Star Game in 1990. The season 1990/91 he also started at the Winnipeg Jets, but was transferred Stars in exchange for Don Barber to the Minnesota North on 7 November 1990. He spent the following season with the Nordiques de Québec. For the 1992/93 season he joined the NHL Ottawa Senators rookie, but finished the season with the San Diego Gulls of the International Hockey League. Last played the Canadians from 1993 to 1996 for the Fife Flyers and Cardiff Devils in the British Hockey League, before he ended his career at the age of 38 years.
