Drew Carey

Drew Allison Carey (* May 23, 1958 in Cleveland, Ohio ) is an American comedian, show host, actor, screenwriter and television producer.

Life

Carey grew up as the youngest of three children; his father died when Carey was eight years old. He attended Kent State University, but left this early and made a commitment for six years with the United States Marine Corps. After the service end, he first moved briefly to Las Vegas before returning to Cleveland. From 1985, he pursued a career as a stand -up comedian. He joined several years in clubs in Cleveland and Los Angeles and took part in the 1988 U.S. edition of Star Search. He had his first national appearances in 1991 in Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show and Late Night with David Letterman.

In 1993 he had his first show on the pay- TV channel Showtime, for which he was awarded the CableACE Award. In the same year he had a small role in the comedy film Coneheads. In 1994, he played one of the main roles of the sitcom The Good Life, but this was discontinued after 13 episodes. Together with Bruce Helford, he developed the comedy series Drew Carey Show, which was broadcast in 233 episodes between 1995 and 2004. For the series, he was awarded the People's Choice Award and the Golden Satellite Award. From 1998 Carey moderated the comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Were broadcast from the 223 to 2006 sequences. Based on the show was later in Germany free snout with Dirk Bach as moderator. In 2000 he played the title role in the Disney television musical Geppetto. Since Bob Barker had withdrawn hot from the U.S. version of the game show The Price is Carey moderated this since 2007.

Besides his own shows Carey had several guest appearances: 1999, he starred in a music video by Weird Al Yankovic, 2001, he took part in the Royal Rumble, the World Wrestling Entertainment, where he did not actively intervened in the fight, but after less than a minute fled from the ring, he also was taken by Kane in the WWE Hall of Fame 2011. In 2008, he appeared in an episode of The Simpsons. He also guest starred in television series such as Look, Home Improvement and Nikki and had a voice in the computer animated film Robots.

Carey attended as a fan of American football team the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany and the Football World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
