Royal Rumble

The Royal Rumble is one taking place since 1988 major event of the wrestling league WWE.

The main event ( the so-called Main Event ) of the evening is the eponymous Royal Rumble match; an Over the Top Rope Battle Royal with 30 ( and 40, 2011, once ) participants, being located at the beginning only two wrestlers in the ring and usually every 90 seconds ( in the first shows every 2 minutes, 1995 every 60 seconds), another wrestler enters the ring. The goal is to remain in this match as the last man in the ring. The wrestlers are eliminated from the competition if they are transported over the top rope and then touch both feet to the floor. The ring must be left during the match below the bottom ring rope or between the ropes without consequences.

The winner of the Royal Rumble match since 1993 officially gets a title shot at the biggest prize of the league in the main event of WrestleMania next, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Since 2003-2013 two World Title exist, had the winner can choose between a match against the World Heavyweight Champion or the WWE Champion. From 2006 to 2010 the winner could also compete against the reigning ECW Champion.

Together with the major events WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series, the Royal Rumble is one of the Big Four, which is the most traditional and aligned the longest PPV shows of the WWE. The Royal Rumble is also the beginning of the annual Road To WrestleMania.

The first Royal Rumble have played only 20 participants, each additional Royal Rumble match contested 30 participants. In 2011, the match was contested once with 40 participants.

1992 was presented for the first time, the "World Heavyweight Championship " to the victor. The victory and the title secured Ric Flair.

Statistics

  • With three victories (1997, 1998, 2001 ) is " Stone Cold" Steve Austin record holder in the Royal Rumble match. He was however denied as part of a storyline later, the first victory.
  • Hulk Hogan (1990 & 1991), Shawn Michaels (1995 & 1996), Steve Austin (1997 & 1998 & 2001), John Cena (2008 & 2013) and Batista (2005 & 2014) were now attracted more than a Royal Rumble match.
  • Bret Hart and Lex Luger are the only joint winner (1994 ) in the history of the Rumbles. In 2005, the last two participants John Cena and Batista eliminated each other and came to the same time on the hall floor. In this case, the match but was restarted with the two remaining participants and Batista won.
  • With Shawn Michaels ( 1995) Vince McMahon (1999 ), Chris Benoit (2004) and Rey Mysterio (2006 ) won the previous four wrestlers the match despite the worst start numbers one and two, with which they were from the beginning of the match in the ring.
  • From the # 27 most of the winners of the match went out. (1989, 1993, 1994 and 2001).
  • The Undertaker (2007 ) and John Cena (2008 ) won the only with the number 30
  • The worst has been the starting number four. 12 Wrestlers with this number were first eliminated.
  • The youngest winner of the Royal Rumble was Brock Lesnar (2003 ) with 25 years.
  • The oldest winner of the Royal Rumble was Vince McMahon ( 1999) with 54 years.
  • Rey Mysterio remained at Royal Rumble 2006 ( he also won ) 1:02:12 hours in the ring and thus holds the current record for the longest winning involved in the match. The record for the longest remaining wrestler who did not win the match, Bob Backlund introduced in 1993 to ( 1:01:10 hours).
  • With 7:19 minutes ( 2010) Edge is the winner of the match, which was the shortest in the ring.
  • Santino Marella was in the Royal Rumble in 2009 for a second in the ring and thus the shortest representation in a Rumble.
  • The record for the most eliminations in a single Rumble keeps novel Reigns, the upgraded 2014 twelve opponents out of the ring.
  • Most opponents in no time eliminated The Great Khali in the Royal Rumble in 2007, which carried seven wrestlers in 1:47 minutes out.
  • With 16 missions Kane took most common, but under different gimmicks in a Royal Rumble part.
  • The only participant who was represented three times with the same Royal Rumble, but still did not win was in 1998 Mick Foley with his three gimmicks Dude Love, Cactus Jack and Mankind.
  • So far, three women participated in the Royal Rumble part: Chyna (1999 and 2000), Beth Phoenix (2010) and Kharma (2012 ). All three were each eliminate a wrestler in their participation.
  • Ric Flair won the 1992 single Royal Rumble, which is (then WWF) was not a title fight, but directly to the supreme title in WWE.
  • The events in 1988, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2006 and 2013, the Royal Rumble match was not in last place, that was not the main event.
  • Miami (1991 and 2006), Fresno (1996 and 2005), San Antonio (1997 and 2007), New York (2000 and 2008), Atlanta (2002 and 2010) and Boston (2003 and 2011) were already two-time venue.
