Dundalk FC

The Dundalk Football Club is a football club founded in 1903 from the Irish town of Dundalk. Dundalk since 1926 plays continuously in the League of Ireland.

History

The club was founded in 1903 as Dundalk Great Northern Railway (GNR ) Association Club; the first years played the club until the outbreak of World War I at the local level, when the club ceased playing mode for the time being. After the World War II had ended, the club game operation took from the season 1919 again, at first back in a local league. After the independence of the Irish Free State, the club has not been included in the newly formed Football League of Ireland. The club benefited indirectly but nevertheless of the new league: As the members of the League of Ireland, were eliminated simultaneously from the Leinster Senior League, the game most regional Irish League, Dundalk could be take one of the now unoccupied grid positions in Leinster; they were there in part, the only non- Dublin team. Dundalk finished the season 1925/26, as a third party; because of this success, the club was finally be included at game time in 1926/27 as one of two new teams in the League of Ireland.

In 1930, named the club in Dundalk F. C. order; In 1933, then managed as the first club that did not come from Dublin, winning the Irish Championship. 1942 succeeded the first overall victory in the Irish competition since independence, the Dublin and Belfast Inter- City Cup, and the first of nine wins of the Cup of the Republic. From the 60s to the 90s of the 20th century, Dundalk was one of the most successful Irish teams with eight championships in 33 years, five Cup and four League Cup victories. Since the turn of the millennium, however, went down with Dundalk, despite another Cup victory in 2002, the First Division we dismounted in the second league.
