Ammonium is the ammonium salt of picric acid. It was used among others in World War II as a military explosives for explosive charges. A common name is "Explosive -D".

Production

One gets Ammonium by saturating an aqueous solution of picric acid with ammonia. The product is red, when stored in the presence of water vapor goes ammonium picrate in the more stable yellow form above.
