Dutch Sam

Samuel Elias ( Elijah called Dutch or Dutch Sam ) ( born April 4, 1775July 3, 1816 ) was a famous Anglo- Jewish boxer from the bare- knuckle period.

At a size of about 1.70 meters ( 5'6 ½) was Elias ' maximum combat weight of about 134 pounds ( 60.7 kg ), which corresponds to the light- weight today. His first professional fight in 1801, he played against Caleb Baldwin, he ausknockte in the 37th round. Later he was English champion and had particularly known battles against Tom Belcher (brother of Jem Belcher ). He is regarded as the first user of the right hook up the London Prize -Ring and as the toughest racket of his time. After 1810, he withdrew temporarily from boxing back and was in poor health. The defeat in his last boxing match in 1814, however, was attributed to its high alcohol consumption. He died a half year later at the age of 41 years.

Elias applies to Daniel Mendoza as the best Jewish boxers of the pioneer era and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
