Eberhard von Gemmingen

Father Eberhard Freiherr von Gemmingen -Hornberg SJ ( born April 4, 1936 in Bad Rappenau ) is a German Jesuit. He worked from 1982 to 2009 Head of the German editors of Vatican Radio.

Life

This comes from the family of the Barons of Gemmingen. When he was three years old, his parents settled, Hans Weiprecht Freiherr von Gemmingen -Hornberg (1905-1945) and Marie- Wilhelmine Countess of turning on Deufstetten (1908-1996), from the Water Palace Bad Rappenau by guarantees in Württemberg. His father died in World War II in 1945 on the Eastern Front. The young orphan was sent to the College of St. Blaise, an operated since 1934 by the Jesuit boarding school in the former Benedictine monastery in St. Blaise.

After graduation Eberhard von Gemmingen entered the Jesuit Order. As is usual for the Jesuits, he first completed a three- year degree in philosophy before he studied Catholic theology at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich, the Leopold- Franzens -Universität Innsbruck and the University of Tübingen. He received in 1968 by Cardinal Julius Dopfner in Munich, the sacrament of Holy Orders. In 1980, it be - Order Upper freely as ecclesiastical officer at ZDF. In 1982 he moved to Vatican Radio.

After the election of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger as Pope Benedict XVI. he introduced the first personal interview with the new Pope. Gemmingen studied in Tübingen, when Ratzinger was a professor there.

After a heart attack on January 14, 2007, Father has retired from Gemmingen for some time from work in the German editors of Vatican Radio. At the end of 2009 he leave the management of the German section of Vatican Radio to Bernd Hagenkord SJ. Since 2010 he has been active in fundraising headquarters of the Society of Jesus in Munich.

On 5 February 2010 saw Gemmingens comparison between the coverage of the abuse scandal at German Jesuit schools and the Shoah for excitement. In an interview with the Heilbronner Stimme he said: " It is fatal to rendering the whole Order bad. I need to make a comparison: With the Jews it is so gone off that maybe one or the other Jew has done wrong. But then you have worse, all accused and trying to eradicate.
