Edgar Raymond Kiess

Edgar Raymond Kiess ( born August 26, 1875 in Warrensville, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, † July 20, 1930 in Eagles Mere, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1913 and 1930 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Edgar Kiess attended the public schools of his home and thereafter until 1892, the Lycoming County Normal School in Muncy. In the following two years he taught himself as a teacher. Since 1894 he worked in Hughesville in the newspaper business. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1904 and 1910 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Since 1910 he was on business in Williamsport. From 1912 until his death he was curator of the Pennsylvania State College.

In the congressional elections of 1912 Kiess was in the 15th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrats Bauchop William Wilson on March 4, 1913. After eight elections he could remain until his death on July 20, 1930 in Congress. Since 1923 he represented there as a successor of Isaac Cline Clinton the 16th district of his state. Since 1925 Kiess was chairman of the Committee on Insular Affairs. In his time as an MP including the First World War and the beginning of the Great Depression were the end of 1929. Moreover, were during his time in Congress ratified the 16th, the 17th, the 18th, and the 19th Amendment.
