Edmond Davall

Edmond Davall the Younger ( born March 23, 1793 in Orbe, † December 18, 1860 in Lausanne) was a Swiss forester.

The son of coming from England botanist Edmond Davall ( 1763-1798 ) studied forestry in Germany, where he graduated in 1816 with a diploma. After that he worked as a landscaper in Orbe, Lausanne and Moudon. In the formulation of the Swiss Forest Act 1835, he played a decisive role.

Davall was a founding member of the Société vaudoise of forestiers and Vice President of the Cantonal Forestry Commission. Part-time, he was from 1832 a judge at the district court Vevey, 1843-1845 liberal parliament of the canton.

Edmond Davalls son Albert was also an important Swiss forester.

After his father Edmond Davall Davalls Carex davalliana is named. James Edward Smith named the Farngattung Davallia also after his father.
