Edward F. Arn

Edward Ferdinand Arn ( born May 19, 1906 in Kansas City, Kansas; † January 22, 1998 in Wichita, Kansas ) was an American politician and from 1951 to 1955 the 32nd Governor of the state of Kansas.

Early years and political rise

Edward Arn attended Kansas City Junior College, the University of Kansas and the Kansas City School of Law, where he studied law. Following a stint in the Autobahnerwaltungsbehörde of Kansas in Wichita, he began a legal career as a lawyer. In 1943 he joined the U.S. Navy and was used during the Second World War as an officer on an aircraft carrier. Even in his school days Arn interested in politics. He quickly became District Chairman of the Republican Party in Wyandotte County. Between 1947 and 1949 Arn justice ministers of Kansas was ( Attorney General ). After that, he was until 1950 a judge at the Kansas Supreme Court, before he was elected in 1950 for his party as the new governor of Kansas.

Governor of Kansas

Arns term as governor began on January 8, 1951 and ended, after a re-election in 1952, on 10 January 1955. During these four years was in Kansas a standalone Autobahnmeisterei ( Turnpike Authority) established. Was also re-established a citizens' committee (Citizen 's Commission ), a grain Committee ( Grain Commission ), an administrative Ministry ( Department of Administration) and a veterans committee. The social legislation has been improved and reorganized the Ministry of Welfare. In 1951 also, there were devastating floods in the country, with which the Government of the governor had to deal.

Another Journey

At the end of his tenure, Arn moved back to Wichita, where he practiced as a lawyer again. In 1962, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the U.S. Senate. In 1973 he was chairman of a legal advisor Commission ( Judical Study Advisory Commission ). Edward Arn died in 1998 at the age of 91 years. He was buried in Wichita. The ex-governor was married twice and had a total of two children.
