Edwin Cerio

Edwin Cerio ( born June 28, 1875 Capri, † January 24, 1960 ) was an Italian writer, architect and shipbuilder.

Life

Edwin Cerios mother was English, the father Ignazio Cerio was a physician and naturalist. Edwin Cerio had two doctorates ( shipbuilding and mechanical engineering) and was from 1902 to 1915 Project Engineer for the construction of warships on the Krupp Germania shipyard in Kiel. Since Cerio mastered six languages ​​, he became Krupp, also used for the sale of warships to the Navy of foreign countries, especially in South America.

The First World War brought Cerio in a crisis of conscience, he no longer wanted to be involved as a " merchant of warships " on the hatred of the people. He retired to Capri back, as an architect, he built some of the most beautiful houses of the island known as the " Capri " style harking back to the Moorish tradition of design, but above all he found his new calling as a writer.

In 1920 he was elected mayor. He used this time to defend themselves against the urban sprawl of Capri; many hotels, apartment complexes and the like were even then built. This mission was controversial, and after three years he was voted out. Cerio also possessed even some villas.

Cerios known book Aria di Capri (1927 ) also appeared in the USA and England, in Germany reduced under the title of Capri, a small theater of the world. In addition to novels and short stories he wrote over fifty monographs scientific content on fauna, flora, geology and paleontology of Capri. He was married to the writer Claretta Cerio.
