Ignazio Cerio

Ignazio Cerio (* 1840 in the Abruzzo region, † 1921 on Capri ) was an Italian naturalist and physician.

Ignazio Cerio came in 1868 as a military doctor to Capri, where he became a well-known personality of the island. There, he collected and systematized natural history finds. His research, he ran partly along with his friend, Friedrich Alfred Krupp. On Capri is its natural history collection now available to the public (Centro Ignazio Cerio Caprense at Palazzo Cerio ) and also contains a library of literature on Capri. This exhibition was made by one of his sons, the writer Edwin Cerio founded.

Ignazio Cerio was married to Englishwoman Elizabeth Grimmer; the couple had six children. His sons Arturo and Giorgio were also in contact with Krupp and were with him at the company " Congrega di Fra Felice ".
