Eesti Rahvusringhääling

Eesti Rahvusringhääling (ERR; German: Estonian broadcasting) is the public broadcaster of Estonia. It was founded on 1 June 2007 and replaces the two former institutions Eesti Raadio and Eesti Televisioon from. The legal basis of the "Estonian National Broadcasting Act," was passed by the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) on 18 January 2007.

History

The history of radio broadcasting in Estonia began in the fall of 1921 with the proliferation of the first receivers. After numerous test runs and the establishment of radio clubs and societies, was six years later, recorded on December 18, 1926, the regular broadcast operation. One of the radio pioneers was Felix Moor, immortalized for his services to broadcasting in 2001 on an Estonian stamp. In February 1928, the first storyteller has been sent.

On June 1, 1932 Eesti Raadio member of the International Broadcasting Union (IBU ), a forerunner of the European Broadcasting Union ( EBU).

The legal basis for the operation of Eesti Raadio and the public service broadcaster Eesti Televisioon are enshrined in the Broadcasting Act of 19 May 1994. The transmitters have, among other things mandated to promote Estonian culture to satisfy the information needs of all segments of the population with messages to archive events of public and cultural life permanently, and to strengthen national unity. The stations are monitored by a nine-member Broadcasting Council, whose members are appointed by the Parliament.
