Egg piercer

An egg piercer ( colloquially Eierpikser ) is a kitchen tool, with the eggs in a small hole can be engraved into the shell to open the air chamber to the outside. Characterized a pressure equalization allows the cooking which is to prevent the bursting of the egg shell. However, an examination of the WDR television science magazine Quarks & Co showed that the Eierpiksen has no effect on whether an egg when cooking breaks down or not.

Method of construction

The construction of eggs engravers one hand prevents too deep penetration of the needle, whereby the inner shell skin would hurt, and on the other hand, too high a load on the sensitive skin. For this, the pressure of the unit is distributed over a larger area and the insertion of the needle dampened by a spring or the like.

Consist egg piercer from a small box with a tray and a hole in the center of the lid and a needle in the middle of the floor in the original design from the 1970s. Top and bottom are connected with each other in telescopic design and are pushed apart by a spring. By putting on the ice with the wider end and gently pressing down the shell is pierced.

Except as single unit egg piercer are used as a component of egg or egg cookers watches today. "Designer models " are on the market as well, which differ significantly from the classic design, but perform the same function.
