The Ehrenburg

The Ehrenburg is a hill fort on the western slope of the Geratals above the town Plaue in Ilm-Kreis in Thuringia ( Germany ).

History

The castle was built after 1324 by the counts of Schwarzburg. In the late 15th century the castle was no longer used, and fell slowly until 1856 work began on the first backup masonry. 1912, the castle was sold and established her as a restaurant.

Plant

The castle complex consists of the main castle of the great hall and tower, which is surrounded by a circular wall. Furthermore, additional walls were built in the south and east, to protect those flanks. The castle is in its investment in the nearby castles love stone and Ehrenstein similar: on a rectangular plan tower and palace were built. Today, the castle is privately owned and not open to the public.
