Rein is the end of 2014 a municipality with 2973 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) north of Graz, which is geographically the fourth largest municipality in the district. As part of the municipality of structural reform in Styria it is merged in 2015 with the communities of Jews Village Straßengel, Gratwein and Gschnaidt, the new community will be called market town Gratwein - Straßengel. This is based on the Styrian community structure reform law - StGsrG.

The place clean with his famous pen is the center of the community and also the seat of a grammar school.

Geographical Location

Rein is close to the west of Mur Gratwein about ten kilometers northwest of the provincial capital of Graz. In the municipality, numerous beautiful mountains, including the are " four thousand ":

  • Mühlbach mountain ( 1048 m)
  • Rolling mountain ( 1026 m)

Geology

Pure lies west of Gratkorn basin, which opens up to the West Styrian Riedland and forms a widening of the Murtal. The area is part of the Styrian Neogenbeckens ( Graz bay ), its rock layers are called " layers of pure " means. Below are limestones, dolomites, sandstones and shales from the " Graz Palaeozoic ". In the Reiner layers with river deposits from the Baden with breccias, freshwater marl, some with small powerful coal seams. In these layers as early as 1846 described the occurrence of " chert ". About these layers are further flow deposits ( Eckwirtschotter ) and clay layers from the Pleistocene.

In Rein in and around there were a number of mining operations, as mercury and lignite.

Coat of arms

The award of the municipality coat of arms was made with effect from 1 September 1963. Coat Description: In a green sign up to the upper plate edge -reaching, with a green spruce occupied golden tip that is beseitet right of a golden crosier, left by a golden ear. ( In the community, whose main industries are agriculture and forestry, is the old, significant Cistercian monastery Rein, on which points the crook. )

History

North of the village clean was in the Neolithic Age (Neolithic ) in Lasinja culture, a mining site for Silex (pebble stone such as chert, quartz, etc.). From their tools ( hand axes, blades, scrapers, etc.) were obtained. Workpieces from this mining site were spread to a distance of 150 km.

The community Rein is off the main roads, but is nevertheless well connected due to the proximity to Graz. The Phyrn motorway ( A 9) is on the junction Gratkorn (Exit 173) in eight kilometers away and via the auxiliary connection point Gratkorn - North (Exit 170) to achieve in five kilometers. In Gratkorn there is also access to the Grazer Straße ( B 67 ) to the direction of Graz and Bruck an der Mur.

In the municipality there is no train station. In the neighboring village of Gratwein are only about three kilometers from the railway station Gratwein - Gratkorn access to the Austrian Southern Railway and the S-Bahn Steiermark.

Graz Airport is about 35 km away.

Sports
