El Dorado Springs is a small town in Cedar County of the U.S. state of Missouri in the United States. She had 3593 inhabitants in the census in 2010, making it the largest city in the district. Your name is usually abbreviated to El Dorado.

Geography

The city lies on the east- west trending U.S. Highway 54 in the northwest corner of Cedar County, in southwest Missouri, right next to the St. Clair County and Vernon County. It has an area of 8 km ², of which 0.025 km ² water surface. The distance to Springfield in the southeast is about 110 miles and to Kansas City in the northwest about 160 km.

History

The city was founded in 1881 by brothers Nathaniel and Waldo Cruce. This found that the water had a high mineral content and could be marketed as medically valuable. The city was named just according to this source, which has since been known as a healing source and tourists as well as seekers of healing attracts.

Annual tradition is the Founder's Day Picnic, celebrated since the city's founding. By now extended to three nights a permanent party, it attracts thousands of visitors. The more than 100 years continuously existing city chapel is one of the oldest in the United States and occurs even today in the summer months of June, July and August every weekend, as well as special events.

The average household size was 2.21 and the average family size amounted to 2.86.

23.7% of the population were under 18 years old, 8.5 % from 18 to 24, 24.2% 25-44, 19.3% from 45 to 64, and 24.4% who were 65 years or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 84.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 79.0 males.

The median income for a household was $ 20,789, and the median income for a family $ 26,366. Males had a median income of $ 23,109 versus $ 15,197 for females. The per capita income was $ 12,575. 24.9 % of the population and 18.7 % of families are below the poverty line. Of which 42.7 % have children under the age of 18 and 16.5 % of those 65 or older.
