El Salvador national football team

The Salvadoran national football team, also known as La Selecta ( The Selection), is the compiled by the Federación de Fútbol Salvadoreña selection team of the best football players of the nearby Central American nation of El Salvador. El Salvador has yet been able to qualify twice for a World Cup, but lost all six group matches, including the 1:10 against Hungary at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, which is the heaviest defeat a team ever in football world championships still to this day.

History

After the won qualifying matches for the Football World Cup 1970 in Mexico vs. Honduras broke out between the two neighboring countries of the so-called soccer war, which claimed thousands of deaths. The occasion was the first leg on June 8, 1969 in Honduras, which caused a riot. The causes, however, were in the strong social tensions between the Honduran population and the Salvadoran minority in Honduras. Six days after the outbreak of fighting on July 14, 1969, came to a truce only in 1980 for the conclusion of peace.

After 1988, the national team has not participated in the Olympics and the qualifying matches to do so. Been an Olympic team could not qualify.

World cup

Hitherto El Salvador could qualifieren twice for the World Cup finals, but win there in six games still no point. In the eternal table of the finalists, the team occupies the 76th and last place.
