El-Tarif

The Egyptian village at El - tariff or tariff ( Arabic الطارف, DMG aṭ fare ) is located on the west bank of the Nile near Luxor, just north of Dra Abu el- Naga in the area of Thebes.

The area is located diagonally across from the mortuary temple of Seti I. at the junction to the Temple of Hatshepsut. The associated Saff Tombs ( pillar tombs ) were in the center of at least 250 private tombs and triggered from the previous grave type of the Old Kingdom.

Since at- tariff is a rocky arid region, the Egyptians used countersunk atria grave sites. This local form of the tombs found only in the first lap and for the 11th dynasty application. Similar graves have been otherwise applied only in Armant, Dendera and Gebelein.
