El Viejo is a small town and a municipality in the Central American country Nicaragua, which is about 7 km from Chinandega.

Kitchen

Today, El Viejo is known for its variety of cuisine. Their specialties are rosquillas, Cajetas and Bjillos from milk. Endemic there is the Toncua, which is similar to the papaya and is eaten with honey to local practice. In the colonial time, El Viejo was a sub-center of Nicaragua.

Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception of Mary,

From the 17th century, the Minor Basilica of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, comes from. In the church a rich device was obtained. In the church a baptismal font is from 1560th to arrival of Marie -portrait is reported that Fray Pedro de Zepeda y Ahumada, a brother of Teresa of Ávila by a storm in 1562 was held in the port of Realejo and he had the image of Mary with him, which was much admired. Agriculture

In the most extensive municipality of Chinandega bananas, peanuts, sugarcane and sesame are grown. As well as shrimp farming operated in less volume and a significant contribution to GDP.

Geographical classification

The Pacific coast is the most densely populated village area of Nicaragua. The volcanic soil is fertile.
