Elisabeth Wendling

Elisabeth Augusta Wendling ( born Sarselli ), also known as " Lisl " (* February 20, 1746 in Mannheim, † January 10, 1786 in Munich) was a German coloratura soprano.

Life

Lisl was the daughter of the tenor Pietro Sarselli and Carolina Volvasoris, both engaged at the Mannheim court theater. Also Lisl began her career there in 1761 at the age of 15 years. 1764 she married the court musician and violinist Franz Anton Wendling, the brother of the composer and flautist Johann Baptist Wendling. 1770 she sang together with Anton Raaff Niccolò Piccinni in " Catone in Utica ", 1772 in the role of Rossane in Johann Christian Bach " Temistocle " and in 1774 as Celia in Bach's " Lucio Silla ".

Through her vocal performances she belonged to the renowned opera singers of her time. On November 5, 1777, she performed in Salzburg, before they, along with many other Mannheim musicians the Elector Karl Theodor in the context of his residence change accompanied in 1778 to Munich. Mozart wrote the music for the role of Elektra in "Idomeneo" ( K. 366 ), which they played in Munich on Cuvillies theater for them. Lisl ended her operatic career in 1785. Daughter Dorothea ( 1767-1839 ) also took singing lessons at Lisl's sister Dorothea Wendling.

She is the wife of the brother of Johann Baptist Wendling, whose daughter the singer Elisabeth Augusta Wendling (1752-1794) was.
