Elizabeth Anka Vajagic

Elizabeth Anka Vajagic (* in Montreal ) is a Canadian singer and guitarist with Croatian roots.

Vajagics music is somewhere between different genres, the classic songwriting, folk, blues, and post-rock and looks at a first hearing at the same time simple and disturbing. It is usually worn only by the interplay of her voice with the guitar and a few other instruments such as the violin, harmonium and percussion. Your sparingly inserted singing was often compared to that of Patti Smith and PJ Harvey, but basically is their way, especially live seemingly impulsive and as deeply as possible from the body to sing out, unique. Accordingly, the effect of their sometimes quite long songs is usually rough, unpolished and bleak.

First live performances in the area gave Elizabeth Anka Vajagic the mid-1990s. Their first album was with the stillness of this day was published in 2004 and appeared as well as the following year released EP Nostalgia / Pain at Constellation Records, the company from which mainly based in Montreal post-rock scene to Godspeed You! Black Emperor is laid. Although Vajagic be assigned with their music hardly the now well-established post-rock scheme, one can hear the influence of the Montréal music scene significantly. This is probably also due to the collaboration of various musicians in the local scene, especially as of Efrim Menuck, at the Godspeed You! Black Emperor and A Silver Mt Zion acts responsible, Sam Shalabi and members of bands such as Molasses, Hrsta, Crackpot ( band) and Steak 72
