Elk Mound is a municipality ( with the status of Village ) in Dunn County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In the census in 2010 Elk Mound had 878 inhabitants.

Geography

Elk Mound is located in the central northwestern Wisconsin near the Red Cedar River, which heard about the Chippewa River to the basin of the Mississippi.

Interstate 94 runs northwest -southeast in the direction along the south- center of Elk Mound. U.S. Highway 12 runs parallel to I-94 as the main road through the town. On the northwestern city limits, the Wisconsin State Highways 29 and 40 meet together ( at its southern end point). All other roads are minor roads, some unpaved roadways and within local roads.

For freight transport, in addition to the U.S. 12 a railroad line of the Union Pacific Railroad runs through the municipality of Elk Mound.

The nearest airport is Chippewa Valley Regional Airport in Eau Claire (20,4 km to the east); the greater Minneapolis -Saint Paul International Airport is 135 km to the west.
