The Ellmau stop is with 2344 m above sea level. A. the highest peak of the massif of the Wilder Kaiser Kaiser mountain range ( Northern Limestone Alps ) in Tyrol. Base for climbing on this mountain is 1620 m high Gruttenhütte in the southern flank. Also worth mentioning is the unstaffed, tiny Babenstuberhütte, located directly below the summit. Routes

On the summit lead two famous vie ferrate:

  • The Emperor Schützensteig is considered challenging alternative to the normal route. He is much longer, more strenuous climbing and technically more difficult than the Gamsängersteig.
