Elm (email client)

Elm (Electronic Mailer ) is a free console-based e -mail program for Unix - like operating systems. It was programmed by Dave Taylor of Intuitive Systems company in Mountain View, California, in 1986. The development was continued later under the direction of Bill Pemberton at the University of Virginia. The program is available as free software under a BSD-like license. The heyday of its popularity went to about 1995. Mutt and Pine are inspired by Elm, and stood in the inheritance. The latest version ( 2.5.8 ) was released in August 2005.

Motivates the development of Elm was the fact that the information available at this time e- mail programs worked only line-oriented Unix and therefore did not provide convenient user interface. Elm was the full screen program by default damaligem a real step forward in terms of user friendliness and interactivity.
