Elmen

Elmen is a municipality with 378 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Reutte, Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Reutte on the right bank of the Lech Valley. Elmen is a densely used in construction scattered village on a debris cone. The town was first mentioned in 1312 as Elmenoe, Ellmo, Elbnau (Au elm ).

Elmen is freed by a bypass road from the traffic. A popular destination is the above location Stablalpe. The municipality also the fraction Martinau heard at the left river side. In floodplain blooms in late May on a large area of rare lady's slipper.

Districts

The municipality consists of the village Elmen (320 inhabitants), the village Martinau (52 inhabitants) and the hamlet of Klimm (4 people), each forming its own group (population as at 31 October 2011).

Coat of arms

Blazon: From silver and green three times forked plate with two elm leaves in confused colors.

The coat of arms granted in 1973 shows two stylized elm leaves and symbolizes so as canting arms the place name, which comes from " elm ".

Culture and sights

  • Parish Church of the Three Kings with cemetery and war memorial. A native of the neighboring Elbigenalp artist Johann Anton Falger painted in 1841 for Elmen a dance of death, which was originally placed in niches in the cemetery wall and is now kept in the chapel. The picture cycle consists of 12 small-sized wooden panels ( 35x23 cm ) with associated dialogs. In the sequence are shown: grandmother, beggar, wood servant, nor his prince, a citizen, child, boy, soldier, bride, farmer, priest.
